TISHANA Facey, a 22 year-old resident of Joseph Road in Kingston 13, was shot dead Thursday night while walking past a bar on the Waltham Park Road in the city.
Sources told the Observer that the bullet which killed the young woman was one of those fired by two gunmen at a security guard who was sitting in front of the bar. The guard, however, did not escape unhurt as he received bullets all over the body and was last night in a serious condition in hospital.
The police said no motive was established for the shootings.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent Derrick Knight of the St Andrew South Police Division, led an operation in the Waltham Park Road area early yesterday morning, in search of two men the police believe can assist them in their investigations of Thursday night's shooting.
The two men were not found but in other searches conducted in the Whitfield Town and Harvey Road areas, the police took five persons into custody in relation to other offences.
And yesterday morning at about 9:30, the bonnet and windscreen of a police vehicle on the way to the Hunt's Bay police station with three policemen and a Justice of the Peace, was shot up and damaged at the intersection of Haile Selassie and Brotherton Avenue.
Knight told the Observer that the vehicle had gone to pick up the JP for an interview which was to be conducted with one of the suspects held in the Whitfield Town and Harvey Road areas, and who is wanted for a murder in Manchester. He said that the police were in search of three men they believe can assist them in their investigations of the damaged vehicle.
According to the Constabulary Communications Network's (CCN) account of the incident in which Facey was killed, the security guard was sitting in front of the bar at about 9:10 pm Thursday night, when he was approached by two men armed with guns. "The gunmen immediately opened fire hitting him all over the body. Facey who was walking past the bar with a friend, was accidentally hit in the head by one of the bullets meant for the security guard. After being hit she ran onto nearby St Joseph Road where she collapsed and died," said the CCN report.
The CCN said that eight 9mm spent shells were recovered from the scene of the crime by police investigators from the St Andrew South Homicide Unit.
