39,000 arrested by police this year

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Almost 39,000 people have been arrested and charged due to increased operations this year, the police say.

Additionally, 309 firearms were seized, 450 wanted persons held, 24,451 offensive weapons seized, and about 357,000 traffic tickets issued between January 1 and November 1.

The figures were revealed at a press conference held at the Police Officer’s Club in St Andrew this morning.

There were 693,724 operational activities in the 10-month period, the police say, an increase of over 57,000, when compared with the same period last year.
