4 guns, ammo seized by cops over the weekend

THE police seized four firearms and several rounds of ammunition in operations across three parishes over the weekend.

On Friday in St Catherine and St Andrew, two men were taken into custody following the seizure of a MAC-11 Uzi submachine gun, two other firearms, and several rounds of ammunition during operations in China Town, St Catherine, and Cling Cling Avenue, Olympic Gardens, St Andrew.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that about 8:15 am, a team of officers was patrolling China Town when they observed a man acting suspiciously. Upon seeing the police, he allegedly removed an object from his waistband and threw it away. He then walked away, but was later accosted. The object was subsequently retrieved and found to be a MAC-11 Uzi submachine gun along with a magazine containing seven 9mm rounds.

The suspect was taken into custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

In St Andrew, reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that about 9:00 pm lawmen carried out an operation at a house on Cling Cling Avenue which resulted in the seizure of two firearms and 24 rounds of ammunition. The guns recovered are a Llama .45 pistol along with two magazines and 17 rounds of ammunition, and one Browning 9mm pistol along with seven rounds of ammunition.

The identity of the man in custody is also being withheld pending further investigations.

Then on Saturday in Westmoreland, a Heckler & Koch 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 16 9mm rounds was seized by the police in Moreland Hill.

Reports from the Morgan's Bridge Police are that about 2:30 am, the police were on patrol when they visited a wake. Two men who were observed leaning on motorcycles ran into bushes on the approach of the lawmen. A search of the area was conducted and the firearm and ammunition were found.
