50 Not Out

Monday, August 13, 2012

MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Despite persistent rain and the threat of Tropical Storm Ernesto last week, the Mandeville town centre attracted a relatively good turnout for Independence activities on August 5 and 6.

Those who braved the weather were treated to cultural presentations and a big-screen viewing of the Olympic Games in London.

Organisers and participants described Jamaica 50 as an opportunity to celebrate and also contemplate successes, failures and the road ahead for the nation.

"Jamaica is 50, not out. Find the flag in your heart and embrace the mission," declared Senator Wensworth Skeffery, who represented National Security Minister Peter Bunting at the Jamaica 50 Salute and March Past put on by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) at the Mandeville Park.
