ACB wants public to report corruption
THE Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is urging members of the public to report all instances of corrupt practices by members of the JCF and its auxiliaries.
The ACB said it is aware that some members of the JCF have been involved in the extortion of money from motorists.
It said this practice is unethical, unlawful and goes against standards of the organisation.
“The JCF does not tolerate corrupt behavior, and members are being warned that they should cease and desist from all unethical, illegal and immoral practices,” the ACB said in a news release.
It said the branch has been robust in tackling corruption within the constabulary and ensuring that perpetrators face the full extent of the law.
Several sting operations have been set up in an effort to rid the organisation of these unscrupulous individuals.
“In order for the police to adequately perform the duty of eliminating corruption, the cooperation of citizens is essential. This, unfortunately, is usually the weakest link in the fight against crime,” it said.
Since January of this year, 812 cases have been reported to the ACB with a reported 235 just last month. One hundred and sixteen operations have been carried out by the ACB in which 58 persons have been arrested, inclusive of both police personnel and civilians, and of that number, 46 have been charged.
Reports can be made to 1-800-corrupt, the police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
