Ammunition recovered in Ellerslie Pen

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 | 11:38 AM

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine - Cops from the St Catherine North Police Division yesterday seized a cache of ammunition in Spanish Town.

During an operation in the tough community of Ellerslie Pen 115 rounds of assorted ammunition and a bulletproof vest were discovered.

The ammunition included .762 rounds – the type used in an AK-47 assault rifle – and 9mm rounds.

The police have maintained a constant presence on the Tawes Pen and Ellerslie Pen communities, which are reputed to be the headquarters of the notorious One Order criminal outfit.

In recent weeks, tension has been high in both communities as a split has reportedly developed between factions in the One Order gang.

For two consecutive weeks the security forces have carried out operations in the two communities and a number of men taken into custody.

According to head of the division, Superintendent Anthony Castelle, “the police are taking proactive action to prevent any violence between feuding gang members.”
