KINGSTON, Jamaica - A standoff between police and angry vendors erupted downtown Kingston this morning.

Police armed with ticket books are at loggerheads with scores of vendors who complain that they are not being allowed to peddle their goods.

"The police them a harass the vendors," declared one irate female vendor who insisted that sales was slow and the police were making things more difficult.

“Police them nah allow us to sell we goods, Christmas just around the corner, nothing naw gwaan and still them no want free up the road," another vendor complained.

The vendors also claim that when items for sale are seized by the authorities not all of them are returned.
