KINGSTON, Jamaica – Head of the Jamaica Fire Brigade a short while ago said an area of the Riverton dump that stores tyres is ablaze.

Firefighters are now on location trying to put out the blaze.

The fire comes just weeks after the country was forced to foot a more than J$200-million bill to extinguish one of the largest fires at the landfill.

That fire had forced a lockdown of more than 50 schools and other businesses across the Corporate Area and parts of St Catherine.
