Ash Wednesday race meet at Caymanas Park in jeopardy
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The next race meet at Caymanas Park, which is scheduled for Ash Wednesday, appears to be in jeopardy as the standoff between Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) workers and management continues.

Entries for Wednesday’s meet would have been accepted on Sunday morning, but that was not so. And, from all indications, there are no plans to accept entries on Monday.
Workers from various departments have been protesting over the failure of the CTL management to implement elements of phase two of the reclassification exercise that was verbally agreed between CTL and the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP), which resulted in Saturday’s 10-race programme being cancelled.

It was the first time since 1992 that a race meet was cancelled at Caymanas Park since it began its operation in 1959.
OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that after failing to reach an agreement at a meeting last Friday, another meeting is set for Monday between CTL, UTASP and union delegates. CTL board members are expected to address this meeting and a decision is expected to be made as to whether racing will be held on Ash Wednesday.
UTASP General Secretary St Patrice Ennis said that they are trying to finalise with CTL the collective labour agreement contract for the workers.
