Attorney on fraud rap gets bail

Saturday, March 16, 2013

ARLENE Beckford, the attorney arrested this week on a fraud charge, was yesterday offered $500,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Beckford has been slapped with a charge of fraudulent conversion on allegations that she failed to turn over $1.8 million given to her by a client in July of last year to effect a land transaction in St Catherine.

The police were called in after the complainant tried getting back his money, which was to offset stamp duty and processing fees.

She is to next appear in court on April 24 when the case will again be mentioned.
