Baby killed in Westmoreland fire

SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — A 15-week-old child perished in a fire that destroyed his home in Baggy Road, Waterworks, Westmoreland last night.

He has been identified as Kashawany Johnson.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 8:30pm the child’s mother allegedly left him at home and went to a nearby shop. Afterwards neighbours saw fire coming from the house and alerted the police and the fire department.

During cooling down operations, members of the Savanna-la-mar fire department team found the child burnt to death inside the house.

Loss to the property is estimated at $1.5 million. The house was not insured.
