Bahamas to host 1st IAAF relay championships

Thursday, August 16, 2012 | 9:42 AM

THE Bahamas will be host to the first International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) relay championships come May 2014.

Among the events included are the standard 4x100m and 4x400m but the 4x200m, 4x800 and 4x1500m will also be contested.

Considered a global force in relays, The Bahamas has a rich history in both the 400m and mile relays. It won the women’s 4x100m at the Sydney Olympics and the men’s 4x400m, ending US dominance in that event at the recent London Olympics.

The competition will be held over two days and serve as qualifiers for the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

Additionally, athletes will compete for a share of US$1.4 million.
