Bermudian jailed for punching girlfriend he thought was pregnant
WOLVERHAMPTON (CMC) – A 25-year-old Bermudian man faces deportation from Britain after being jailed for four and a quarter years for punching his partner in the stomach because he feared she was pregnant.
Troy Harris pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and another charge of burgling a friend’s home in Birmingham.
The court heard that in addition to punching her in the stomach Harris also hit the 18-year-old complainant in the face three times until she became unconscious, telling her: “You are not having this baby.”
He also put his hands around the throat of a previous partner and squeezed until she struggled for breath, the court heard.
He had also held a knife against her neck.
“You are quite probably dangerous,” said Judge Nicholas Webb as he jailed Harris for 51 months, telling him he would almost certainly be deported back to Bermuda at the end of his sentence.
The prosecutor – Hugh Williams said Harris stole computer equipment valued at £3,000 from the home of a friend who had dropped his house keys in his car.
Christopher Roach, defending, said Harris had sold the equipment because he was desperate to send money to his seriously ill mother in Bermuda.
The court also heard that Harris had been released from prison in Bermuda only months earlier.
