KINGSTON, Jamaica — Shelter has been identified for the children made homeless by the mass eviction from a Duke Street property, the Child Development Agency (CDA) said today.
The CDA said it has identified 30 spaces for boys and 12 for girls in its South East region, which can house the children on a short-term basis.
According to the CDA, its officers have been visiting the families to assess the situation since they were evicted last Thursday. Twelve CDA officers will register the children and assess their needs to determine the intervention needed, the agency said.
Additionally, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) says it will supply the displaced families with tents, portable sanitary conveniences and collapsible water storage containers.
Almost 60 people were evicted from the Downtown Kingston property on which they were squatting for decades.
