Charities ready to distribute aid

THREE charities say they are ready to receive and distribute aid to members of the security forces and residents of the besieged communities of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town.
Concerned persons have been calling the Observer offering to contribute supplies to those affected by the stand-off between soldiers and gunmen in the Western Kingston area.
John Williamson, executive director of the Salvation Army, says they have a number of facilities open in the Corporate Area to supply aid. Their headquarters are located at Waterloo Road, opposite Devon House and persons can leave their donations there.
Williamson said clothes is not a priority but urged donors to offer cash and food.
“As quickly as we can, we will be looking to send help into sections of the affected areas, that is, as soon as we get security clearance from the police,” Williamson said.
Chief Executive Officer of Food For The Poor Ryan Peralto Jnr said donations and volunteers are needed to assist in the distribution of aid. He said the charity is making a coordinated effort with the Red Cross, who will handle the distribution of relief supplies, to kick start the relief process.
Persons wishing to donate to the Red Cross should drop off their supplies at 76 Arnold Road, Kingston 5.

4 guns were found cuz the guns were retrieved after they were shot and used by other gunmen. I think it unlikely that the police would get to the dead bodies of men behind the barricades before their compadres would. It's not cold blooded murder when you're manning a barricade, a "bus shot", and get killed. Sad thing is that some were pressed into service on pain of death as I read elsewhere. These places needed to be freed. I'd contribute to the residents. Civil society needs to replace dons.

I Cannot imagine why have they taken so long to have established a Acc # where we can transfer a donation.
Are they saying they are not in need of it?. Well the ball is in their hands. (NORMAN SPARKS; there are so many Complex stories coming out of this issue, it's very difficult to assess what's the truth. I cannot imagine the security forces, have killed people who were not shooting at them.
However I'am very supportive of this drive to clean up illegal Weapons.

If all 60 men that were killed, acording to the police and soliders were all gun men, and they only recover 4 guns, what happen to the rest of the 56 guns? Must we believe that the women in tivoli hide all 56 guns? Come on people this is cold blooded murder. What happen to TIVOLI BIG GUN? Were they actually trying to arrest dudus or silence him the way they silence his father. Let us stop being so hateful against each other. Dudus do the right thing bring them all down once and for all TESTIFY.

Dionne Blair, calm down, their "prezi" is a multimillionaire. He can more dan afford it...

I can remember at least twice when Bruce refuse to live Tivoli saying he will not leave the people with the security forces as they can not be trusted and on one occasion he said they shot a woman unprovoked and we will not leave them alone with the security force. Why is that they are left alone this time. The thing we do to get power.

Jamaica Red Cross and Salvation Army need websites that take donations by credit cards, Paypal and checking account. This would make it easier for Jamaicans abroad to donate.

Not being serious but...if he is "next to god" he should be doing everything in his great powers to provide from them, not the enemy(GOJ). Seriously though, we make these comments on these issues and the sad thing is the people who really need to get something from these messages would hardly attempt to read newspaper or these postings...but judging from some of those placards they don't do that too well and none a de picney whey him send a school can't pinch them and say "mama that spell wrong"

Anguish of being: you are such an ass!! how could you say something like that? Pray earnestly that you never have a run in with the police or soldiers or you might just well find yourself singing another tune.

i hope this move will be effective....best of luck to the security forces
