Chef accused of impersonating police arrested
Friday, August 27, 2010
A chef accused of passing himself off as a police officer by using his girlfriend's identification card to access a murder scene in Duhaney Park is now in trouble with the law.
Allegations are that about 4:25 am on August 21, Franklyn Griffiths, 40, went to a crime scene in Duhaney Drive where a man was shot dead and a woman was injured at a party.
The suspect reportedly identified himself as a policeman and was allowed beyond the caution tape but was later instructed to leave as he was contaminating the scene.
At that point, Griffiths reportedly held up an identification card and declared that he was a policeman from the Bureau of Special Investigation. It was subsequently revealed that the card belonged to his companion, a district constable, who had given him the card along with her bag to hold while at the entrance of the crime scene.
Griffiths was arrested and slapped with charges of impersonating a police officer and obstructing the police. He was later granted station bail in the sum of $50,000.
The suspect was on Wednesday brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charges and a trial date set for September 15.
Griffiths was scolded by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.
"I hope you will stop and consider the seriousness of what you have done. It is not a joke matter," said Pusey.

She should be suspended for a reasonable amt. of time..

Thanks to Judge Pusey. There is no telling what he might do in the future with his girlfriend's badge. She should be more careful with the constabulary's property.
