Clinton Says US-Jamaica relationship still strong

ROSE HALL, St James — US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has rejected claims of a strained relationship between the United States and Jamaica.
"I am very heartened and pleased by the relationship," said Clinton. "We have worked very hard over the last two-and-a-half years, certainly since I have been Secretary of State under President (Barack) Obama's administration, to deepen and broaden the relationship between Jamaica and the United States."
The US secretary of state was speaking at a press conference, following a high-level meeting with Caricom foreign ministers at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Spa, in Rose Hall on Wednesday evening.
She emphasised that a recent meeting with Prime Minister Bruce Golding in Washington, DC, was quite fruitful, adding that "we are in regular contact".
There has been talk in some quarters that the Golding administration's handling of the Christopher 'Dudus' Coke extradition request by the US strained the relationship between Kingston and Washington.
But Clinton told journalists at the press conference that her government is pleased with the manner in which Jamaica has tackled many of its challenges.
"The way that Jamaica has confronted some of the issues, the crime and violence and particularly the problems from drug cartels is quite encouraging as well, and we have many other issues that we are working on together, as well, that we talked about at length. So, I am very pleased by the strong relationship and we have an agenda we are working on together to make it clear that we are partners and we are partners for the long term," Clinton said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Dr Kenneth Baugh, who was also in attendance at the press briefing, said Clinton's visit to the island signals that both countries have a strong and very productive relationship.

Could she possibly have said anything else? The USA currently says its relationship with Pakistan is "strong". LOL

In fact, we would like to strengthen the relationship further by seeking maximum assistance from the U.S to stem corruption in Governance, the Private Sector and other critical Institutions. We must say thanks to the Obama Admin for restoring the balance of power for the law-abiders of this country against narco-terrorists, gun-runners and their aiders and abettors in Governance.
