Clock tower drama
FIREFIGHTERS yesterday rescued a mentally challenged man from inside the Half-Way-Tree clock tower where he had barricaded himself Monday night to avoid further attacks from people in the usually busy commercial and transportation hub.
People claiming to be eyewitnesses could not say what prompted the attack on the man. However, they said he fled into the clock tower and blocked the door after he was doused with water by a group of men
One person, who opted not to be named, told the Jamaica Observer that the man used what appeared to be a metal object to hit the bell in the clock tower repeatedly, starting at about 2:00 am yesterday.
At mid-morning, police and the fire department were called to the scene and the firefighters went about rescuing the man, who was naked, from the tower.
After taking him safely from the tower, the police and firefighters covered his loins with a nylon bag then fitted him in a T-shirt, before replacing the bag with a pair of trousers.
However, the man, after modelling for the large crowd that had by now gathered to witness the event, eventually took the clothes off.
He was eventually taken to Bellevue Hospital by the police who had grown tired of awaiting the arrival of health personnel who were called to collect the man.
