Cochrane to perform final Niagara Falls 'skywalk'

Sunday, September 23, 2012

NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario (AP) — Over the past three months, Jay Cochrane has walked a total of nearly 12 miles on a tightrope between two Niagara Falls, Ontario, towers.

Now his summer of skywalks is coming down to the wire. The Canadian artist's last performance is scheduled for today.

Cochrane has walked, untethered, from atop the 520-foot-tall Skylon Tower to the 581-foot-tall Hilton Fallsview Hotel nearly every day this summer, cancelling only when the weather was bad.

The self-proclaimed "prince of the air" signs autographs after every performance in exchange for donations to two children's charities, Tender Wishes and the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara Falls.
