Cop among five charged in Kingston gold heist

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A police constable is among five people charged in the robbery of $50 million worth of gold bars in downtown Kingston late last year.

Following an investigation Constable Dane Grant, Jerome Simpson, Trevor Hunter and Sheldon Allen have been charged for illegal possession of firearm, robbery with aggravation, shooting with intent and conspiracy to rob.

One other man, Maurice Morris, was charged with misprision of felony.

During the robbery one robber was shot and killed while another was shot and injured and later captured by police, Head of the Flying Squad, Senior Superintendent Cornwall Ford said.

The matter is still under investigation.
