Cop's trial stalls

Thursday, October 11, 2012

YESTERDAY'S trial of Constable Rushon Hamilton for the murder of a 14-year-old girl, with whom he allegedly had a relationship, was postponed in the Home Circuit Court after the jury foreman fell ill.

Hamilton, who has been on trial for the past two weeks, is charged with the October 2008 murder of Jhaneel Goulbourne.

The teenager was kidnapped from the gate of her Harbour View, St Andrew home and was never seen or heard from again.

Her kidnapping followed the filing of a complaint that led to Hamilton being charged with carnal abuse.

A witness has testified during the proceedings that Hamilton confessed to him, while in police lock-up, of killing the girl at sea and dumping her body.

The defence is contending that Hamilton is being set up.
