A policeman was yesterday shot dead and a policewoman shot and injured by gunmen in August Town, St Andrew.

Details about the shooting were unavailable up to press time last night, but a police report said they were traveling in the volatile community when they were attacked.

"The report we received is that the two were shot by men traveling in a car," a police source told the Jamaica Observer last night.

The Constabulary Communication Network reported that the two were rushed to hospital where the policeman was pronounced dead and his female colleague, who was shot in the leg, admitted.
