Cops step up patrols in Portmore following attack

THE police have stepped up patrols in Portmore, St Catherine, following the shooting and injury of two people, including a policeman, on Thursday.

Head of the St Catherine South Police Division, Senior Superintendent Noel Christie, said that in the first incident, a man was chased and shot by gunmen in the Waterford.

Police, who were summoned to the area, took the injured man to hospital for treatment.

Hours after the incident, the lawmen visited neighbouring Gregory Park where they were fired on by gunmen.

"One policemen from the group was shot and injured during the attack," SSP Christie told the Jamaica Observer. He explained that the injured policeman was treated at hospital and released.

Police have since launched a manhunt from the criminals behind the attack.
