Ding Dong barred from Trinidad

Deejay, dancer said to be a threat to Trinidadian society

Chat!

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

IT seems to be a recurring theme: Jamaican artiste barred from entering Caribbean territory. This time the artiste is deejay and dancer Ding Dong, and the Caribbean island is Trinidad.

Ding Dong, who was scheduled to perform at an event in the twin-island republic on Saturday, did not get very far, as on reaching the Piarco International Airport in Port-of-Spain, he was informed that he would not be allowed to enter the country.

It is alleged that the artiste has been placed on a list of Jamaican artistes who have been banned from performing in Trinidad & Tobago. One Chat! source said these artistes, including Ding Dong, have been deemed a threat to Trinidadian society and therefore cannot be allowed into the country.

Last night, Chat! caught up with the artiste, who was still bewildered by the actions of the Trinidadian authorities. “Fi tell you de truth me can’t even explain wha’ go down a Trinidad... mi can’t tell you,” was all Ding Dong could say.

I agree with Trinidad we wouldn't want their children skip to my Lou and die. Or they may want to take a hoildaaaay when they should be working. Ding Dongs music as far as I can recall is cleaner than alot of their soca music.

Let's start banning some Trinidadian artist, but wait who will we ban. I guess we can ban them for too much gyrating "with sexual content) in their songs, not that many Trinidadian artist sings about violence, at least I don't think. I guess the authorities are not doing their work well in Trinidad. Ding Dong are you serious of all people to ban. Dancer turn artist, if majority of Jamaican artist change their content in a lot of their songs we wouldn't have the good artist feeling the pinch.

Its soo funny that even Trinidad can come with some sick way of stifling one of the only good things Jamaica has...Music. I guess if you cant beat them one way...u beat them in another way. Jamaica has always been an enemy of Trinidad simply because of the things our people have achieved and are capable of achieving. This is just plain ridiculous.

Yup straight double standard and broad brushing here, Ding Dong is just like you see him in the picture, about fun and dancing the better side of the music. Since they dnt want him there ban his songs from the airwaves then, if there wasnt a demand he wouldnt have showed up at their airport in the first place.........
What you guys gonna listen to outside of soca season?? We should ban all those soca artistes that come here every easter to perform at carnival

There are many more to be barred. The artistes have put a shame on the Island, I hope every country will follow those who have barred them so far.

Mike Brown, SOME Jamaican artistes have too much violence in their lyrics: I agree. Boycott their shows if you want, but will you lobby your Rep. to ban the host of vulgar US rappers and rock artistes who have sexually explicit lyrics & promote violence? Why would you, want to do that in the US, knowing the American politicians' way of exploiting issues to get votes? It could destroy the careers of many Jamaican artistes, while giving the stamp of approval to American & European artistes? Why?

@Impartial Jamaican: Get real. Babsy Grange cannot "step in" and do anything regarding Trinidad's discretionary immigration decisions. They are doing what we should have done long ago: set the standards we want for our country. Instead, we watched our kids doing dutty wine and daggerin and think its so cute. And all this gully/gaza crap. Other nations look at the jewel that once was Jamaica and have figured out exactly why we have become so twisted. We're the only ones who can't figure it out..

OT......Chris Brown is an American citizen. What kind of visa does he need to enter the UK? John C. Public is seeking clarity. Are we talking about work visa?

That's why I couldn't be the PM or Minister of Youth and Culture or anyone with some authority in cases liek this because my approach would be such a hard line one. 'Kip yuh soca artistes, dry biscuits, and yuh corn flakes" would be my response. Tit fi tat me seh. Ban Kartel and mi support it, but get up and ban an honest, positive, young artiste like DIng is taking it too far. this ban has no basis and is plain discrimination. All of a sudden T&T siddung pon high horse?

Man A Yard. Ding Dong do not sing violent songs. go educate your self before you start generalizing people. do yo know who Ding Dong is. and Trinidad can ban all the want, these artist did not get up and say they want to perform in Trinidad. is the Trinidad people and promoters want them. who cares about Trinidad do they have a music industry?. their are a lot of market around the world for reggae and Dancehall. is time we ban carnival from this country.

who is Trinidad?. soca is crap and will not reach any where. is full time these artist start rejecting those promoters offer and tell them that they are not interesting in performing in their country. i hope when we start returning the favor they don't say we badmind. Jamaica is 50% of the English Caribbean islands with the biggest music industry in the Caribbean. not only in Jamaica also in overseas shows we should not invite any soca artist.

We need to clean up our act here in this country.
@Tinker Bell, Trinidad's songs are "slack' in the sense of pure party, party, and more party, fun, fun and more fun, not in a violent way. You will never hear a calypso or soca song glorifying violence or proclaiming 'informer fi dead" or taking sides for "Gaza" or "Gully." Trinidad should ban them all and we will realize we are doing ourselves more harm than good.

Why do other island powers that be tarr all of our artiste with the same brush. It seems they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Ding Dong hold your head high, you bigger than that.

Ding Dong for the most part is just a fun loving and silly yute. A "Just Wanna Have Fun" type. I don't see why they would want to ban him. There are soca artist more outrageous than this guy. That being said, I hope it's not just Jamaican artist that trinindad is banning.

Its obvious many of you who are cheering dont listen to dancehall music...Ding Dong does not sing gun lyrics or songs that glorify violence....you are using a few to judge the majority....maybe you need to youtube "Holiday" and "Responsible Parent" both done by Ding Dong.....Yes the music needs to be cleaned up but the issue is deeper than just the music...These islands are taking it too far now...who has more slack songs than Trinidad?...

The Jamaican People will never be thwarted in their ability to have a strong cultural impact on the world stage. Through Entertainment, Cuisine, and overall culture. Jamaica is the largest English Speaking Caribbean Island and when our Department for Cultural affairs wake up; we will soon see who will hurt by not having access the the biggest market in the English speaking Caribbean. God Bless Jamaica and its Talents, and they are real Jobs that pay well. The Trinis. want it bad. The few hate it

We jamaicans need to clean up our act. We have narco terrorist initiating attacks on police stations and so called responsible members of society defending these criminals. We have so called artists glorifying gun violence, disrespecting women, and threatening all kinds of mayhem on society, then they are baffled why they are banned from other countries. Ding Dong or what ever your name is, the people do not want you polluting their culture or leading their young people astray.WISE up.

This is not an artiste that sings gun lyrics so why the denial of entry? Our Caribbean neighbours are taking it a little too far. When is Babsy Grange going to step in, when are we going to start standing up for our fellow Jamaicans who are losing income. The sad thing is, there are going to be idiots who comment on this saying that this is what the artistes deserve. There is a lot wrong with our music but we can paint everybody with the same brush.

Good...ban all these misfits. These countries are wise enough to see the problem this genre of degenerates have cost this society. The recent insurrection was a big reminder....now it's Jamaican turns to banned this type of music and ask these people to get a real job like the rest of us.
