A medical doctor who was recently arrested and charged with various sex charges was today offered $800,000 bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Rakesh Thomas, 34, who works at the Lawrence Tavern Health Clinic in St Andrew, was arrested last Tuesday and later charged with having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16, sexual grooming and two counts each of grievous sexual assault and sexual touching following allegations that he sexually assaulted two girls aged 14 and 15.
However, he was offered bail by Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams, on conditions that he surrender his travel documents with a stop order in place and report to the Matilda's Corner, Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm. He was also warned to stay away from the Lawrence Tavern community.
He is to return to court on September 4 for a preliminary enquiry.
