Drivers in Pen Hill Rd crash charged

Sunday, February 12, 2012

The two drivers whose buses were involved in last Tuesday's crash along the Pen Hill main road in Manchester have been slapped with charges by the Mandeville police.

Police said the two mini buses slammed into each other after the driver of one of the units attempted to overtake a truck.

One of the drivers, Loxley Forbes, has been slapped with a charge of dangerous driving, while Hugh Wright has been charged with transporting too many passengers.

Forbes, who sustained multiple injuries, remains in hospital while Wright, who was also injured, was treated and discharged.

Nearly 60 persons, including students who were being transported to school, were treated by personnel at the Mandeville Hospital or the Percy Junor Hospital.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Derrick Cochrane of the Area 3 division — which comprises Manchester, Clarendon and St Elizabeth — told the Sunday Observer that both drivers have a history of being ticketed by the police, and advised that their licences could be suspended due to the number of demerit points stemming from traffic violations.
