KINGSTON, Jamaica - An area of low pressure is currently located over the central Caribbean and will influence thunderstorms across the island Sunday the Meteorological Service says

The forecast is for the system to drift slowly westward, closer to Jamaica and produce outbreaks of showers and thunderstorm over the island, tonight into tomorrow. These showers which may be heavy at times are likely to be accompanied by strong, gusty winds.

The low pressure area has the potential for further development over the next 48 hours. Satellite imagery indicates that the large area of disturbed weather associated with this system, covers much of the Caribbean Sea, south of Hispaniola, the Met Service adds.

Fishers and other marine interests, including those on the cays and banks, should exercise caution, due to deteriorating sea conditions over the next couple of days, the Met Service advises.
