'FRIDAY' RELIEF
Saturday, September 04, 2010
Residents traverse a makeshift foot bridge in Friday, Ginger House, in the upper Rio Grande Valley of Portland yesterday. The original bridge was washed away during heavy rains in April, cutting off several communities in the eastern parish. Yesterday member of Parliament for West Portland Daryl Vaz said that work to fix the dangerous breakaway will begin in three weeks under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme -- a five-year $36-billion islandwide road repair and maintenance project. Observer reporters. Please report only facts!
There is, nor ever was a bridge at this location. The road is completely eroded, and this man-made "footbridge" created as the only means of traveling to and from Port Antonio for several communities.
Also, please publish pictures depicting the real problem, a 400-500 m 'drop' into the roaring Rio Grande river should any child, elderly person, or load-bearer 'slip'. Also, why not publish pictures of caskets being borne across this 'bridge?'.
