Father hands suspect in to police
RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann — One of several men being sought by investigators in St Ann for questioning in relation to Thursday night’s deadly home invasion in Runaway Bay is in custody.
The suspect's father reportedly handed him over to the police in Gayle, St Mary yesterday evening.
The man has since been handed over to investigators in St Ann who are probing the incident in which 36-year-old Gavin Campbell, a Jamaican living in the United States, was killed.
Campbell was among several family members at a villa in Runaway Bay Thursday night about 10:30 pm when several men armed with guns, machetes and other deadly weapons invaded the premises and proceeded to rob the occupants of their valuables.
Some family members reportedly resisted and a tussle developed between them and the gunmen, during which Campbell was shot. He was later pronounced dead at hospital.
One of the alleged gunmen was reportedly seriously injured during the clash and was arrested by police when he turned up at the St Ann’s Bay hospital for treatment. He remains in hospital under police guard.
The other men, who are reportedly from the Runaway Bay area and are said to be known to the police, are still being sought.
