For a departed farm worker

Kareen Speid accepts a funeral grant of CAD$15,000 from Labour Minister Derrick Kellier at the ministry's head office in Kingston this week. The money — paid from an insurance fund maintained by the Liaison Service to assist workers and families in the event of injury or death — is to cover funeral expenses for her common-law husband Horace Clarke, a 42-year-old farm worker who died in an accident in Brantford, Ontario recently. Clarke, who lived in Bounty Hall, Trelawny, is survived by Speid and four children. He had been working in Canada since 2007 and at the time of his death was employed to Chary Produce in South Oakland, Ontario. His funeral has been tentatively set for September 8.
