AN accountant at Nationwide News Network has been fired and is now facing charges after a case of fraud was uncovered at the radio station.

Station boss Cliff Hughes yesterday confirmed the incident to the Jamaica Observer via telephone after an address to staff members.

"We have uncovered fraud in our accounts department by one of our officers," Hughes said. "She has been terminated and we have called in the Fraud Squad and external auditors to find out how it has been done and put in corrective measures."

He declined to go into specifics about the matter.

Sources told the Observer that $1 million to $3 million have been swindled over a one-year period, including the intake for the company's recent 10K charity run. The figure could increase as the probe into the matter continues.

The suspect reportedly admitted to swindling $184,000 from the company.

Yesterday, Fraud Squad detectives were busy interviewing members of the station's accounting staff and collecting statements.
