Front Pew with Reverend Ronald Blair

Nadine Wilson

Sunday, August 15, 2010

Name: Reverend Ronald Blair

Church: New Testament Church of God

Location: 65 Waltham Park Road, Kingston 11

Membership: About 3,000

Marital Status: Married to Evon-May with four daughters

Number of years as a pastor: 48

Four things people would be surprised to know about you:

1. I strongly opposed becoming a minister.

"One would be surprised to know that I tried to run as fast and as far as possible from becoming a minister. I decided I would never do what my dad was doing, not that I didn't like it, but because I felt that it diverted him from opportunities to make his children well taken care of. And so I said no way would I let my children go through that."

2. I love sports, especially cricket.

"I was a fairly good cricketer. I played it in the country area and did well in all the areas except wicket keeping. I have a good bat, I am an open bowler, a spin bowler, a good fielder, and I was quite a good all-rounder."

3. I love creating things.

"My father had a borrowed guitar and it fell and broke the key and I bought a nail and a file and made a key which worked perfectly. I do things of that nature, which allows me to think through and make a way to solve the problems. I also experimented on carving stone or wood."

4. I don't believe in worrying.

"I tend to be calm and take things as they come. What I can solve, I solve them; what I cannot solve, I don't worry over them, because worry can't solve them. I used to worry, but I learnt long time ago that worry doesn't pay bills and cannot solve problems."

God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. Most great men of God were simple non egotististical men. God calls and does all the work himself. He only require a willing vessel.
