G2K's Seiveright denies resignation rumours

PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) youth affiliate Generation 2000 (G2K) Delano Seiveright has denied reports that he is to step down from his post in what is said to be a fallout from the JLP's defeat in the recently held general election.

Seiveright, who was re-elected to serve a third consecutive term in November, told the Observer yesterday that there was no truth to the report.

"All rumours," was all Seiveright was prepared to say when contacted.

Seiveright's G2K has been blamed for waging a negative media campaign against People's National Party leader Portia Simpson Miller in the campaign for the December 29 polls.

The only problem i have with those ads was that they were too soft, they were more on the entertainment side than tough and critical, we G2k need to get back to catchy phrases like "no draw mi tongue" and nah change nutten. who cann take the heat GET out a the kitchen. JLP did not loose the election because of no ads, it was because the lazy intellects stayed home and did not participate so the mainly illiterates and nam a food mentality went out in drones and did dem thing.

I'm no Seiveright fan, but this blaming of G2K has gone too far. Their ads were part of JLP's COMPREHENSIVE ad strategy, with G2K assigned the more aggressive role. IMO the only thing wrong with those ads was that they didn't show what the JLP had done and would do to address burning issues like unemployment & poverty. They only focused on PSM's faults, which was NOT new info to Jmcns. For long, Seiveright's combative & arrogantly partisan attitude have been a problem. The ads are a red herring.

@Renato-Adams: That's how he looks! You want the Observer to Photoshop his photograph?
So how come the adults in the JLP are turning on G2K? What about the Campaign Director? What about the Secretariat? What about the Leader who called the election prematurely?
I guess DS is learning that in politics when "they" have no further use for you, you are simply dumped! Note, however, that myself and others are shedding no tears for you.

Reneto, a more flattering picture will not help. Delano is the one who should create a more flattering image of himself; although it may be too late. Come on kid your bag should already be packed, go, go go, hurry man....

my point Carolyn. the thing is the JLP needs to ensure now that it does not rob itself of its future. Level heads must prevail now... i can see the 1990s storm clouds on the horizon. i just cannot believe Jamaica is back to square one. And where the hell is Bruce Golding?????

Andrew Holness need to reveal who paid Manatt , take the necessary disciplinary actions to clean house & start rebuild the Party ASAP. Seiveright is a liability to himself & the JLP.

Delano Seivewrong, you said you sat on the committee late, however I can recall when TVJ took the advertisement off the air, you were the one criticizing them of being biased. Now we should believe you are not responsible. You are the leader, take responsibility and walk through the door. I hope we never see your type in politics again. Mr. Holness reflects the new breed of politicians, you reflects the old. We as Jamaicans must reject negative politics from both sides, period!

Peter Forbes: You have no idea of the impact of your request. If you put the young G2K guys in the JLP leadership seat, what you would have is another Rome being demolished. Clearly you don't see that all the young G2K to which you refer, are power hungry crabs in a barrel.

You may as well resign - yuh too hype! You are the one that cuss out the press when they rightfully accused the JLP in the Manatt/Dudus case. That is/was a legitimate concern of Jamaicans. In another moment of stupidity you attack the embodiment of the Jamaican woman when you oversaw the ad campaign which sought to paint Portia in a negative light. You dont have much substance- A suit don't make you a respectable leader.

I find it intriguing how Delano is getting the blame for negative advertising now after he was praise in 2007 when the entire JLP used the same tactics against Portia.2007 is still in the back of my head and i notice the JLP was playing the music in 2011 But i knew they would fall on their sword and that's exactly what happen.Only the JLP themselves and the pollster who were predicting a JLP victory didn't see that the JLP was digging a hole for themselves.

And i have to agree with Christopher. What exactly did G2K do that was wrong? They ran a modern campaign. Have we all not seen the political ads in America those are way rougher than than the light Portia Dumb moments highlighted by G2K. Give me a break. I want to know though who chaired the overall JLP Ad Committee ? Did Andrew play any role as Leader? And what about the Campaign HEad Karl Samuda? Something isnt right here

Hmmmmmm. On tvj news last night they said he had pointed from his 3rd term win last November that this would be his last term in office and set a transition from early. i guess no one thought the jlp would have lost. i must say however that i am concerned that the young people taking too much heat for this. I am sure they werent acting as loose independents. Bruce Golding, Andrew Holness, Karl Samuda, Aundre Franklin, Daryl Vaz, james Robertson, Bobby Montague are the JLP leaders not G2K

Karl Samuda, Aundre Franklin and other Party leaders must resign now. As a matter of fact all Party officials must resign. The LEader needs to take control of things and reform the JLP. It appears as if G2K went beyond their remit in order to fill an obvious vacuum in the JLP. I recommend that Andrew get rid of the dead wood in the JLP and put the young G2K guys in the party leadership ranks with clear functions and roles. G2K then must look at itself and figure out what role it must play.

So G2K did some ads to showcase Portia Simspon faults. What new about that? This country is a double standard place. Should Portia get special treatment? And affter watching the G2K ads again i simply dont understand what the alarm is about. If the JLP won they would have been hailed as heroes maybe. Either way the JLP must stop this stupid blame game and place the fire at the feet of the people truly responsible! Who called the election when it is now obvious that the JLP was not ready?

Seiveright, in an article earlier this week, said "as it relates to the JLP/G2K advertising campaign, I hereby put on record that while I sat as a member of the advertising committee, albeit at a late stage, many things happened which caused discomfort on my part. But I must, in the end, accept collective responsibility." --- My question then is who are the members of this advertising committee. I respect the whole collective responsibility line but seems a little overboard.....
