Wednesday, October 17, 2012 | 6:16 PM

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic say police have killed a German man and arrested two other Germans during a shootout in the popular tourist town of Sosua.

Police spokesman Diego Pesqueira says Wednesday's shooting occurred when officers tried to serve a search warrant to hunt for illegal weapons and other items. He says three officers were wounded.

Pesqueira says slain suspect Peter Demetrick was wearing a bulletproof vest. No hometown has been released for him.

The spokesman says officers arrested 61-year-old Peter Brunck of Meisenheim, Germany, as well as a German woman whose identity he has not released.

Police says Brunck has worked as a real estate agent in the Dominican Republic for several years and is the leader of a spiritual group called the "Academy for the Future Health."
