Golding: LNG project not cancelled

Jamaica Observer

Thursday, May 26, 2011

PRIME Minister Bruce Golding said that Government’s liquid natural gas (LNG) project is going ahead despite the recommendation by Contractor General Greg Christie to stop the tender process for a re-gasification terminal and natural gas transportation system.

Cabinet is now to review the recommendations of the contractor general, said Golding.

“The Contractor General has recommended that the tender process be aborted and that it be done over. That does not mean that the LNG project has been cancelled, far from it. It is too important to us, too vital for our economic future, to our investment prospects, our hope for development; and therefore the project is proceeding apace," said Golding.

The LNG project is intended to broaden the Jamaica’s energy sources and includes renewable energy sources such as wind energy.
