Golding recuperating in Miami after back surgery
Tuesday, August 14, 2012 | 6:26 AM
KINGSTON, Jamaica - Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding is receiving postoperative care in Miami following major lumbar spine surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital late July. Golding sought treatment overseas after an infection developed following an initial spine operation in Jamaica on June 9, 2012. According to a release from his brother Dr Trevor Golding he failed to respond fully to a second operation in Jamaica on July 4.
Dr Golding said that the infection was no fault of the medical team in Jamaica “who in our opinion did an excellent job”. Golding has been fitted with a special back-brace to help stabilise his back during the healing process and is receiving an extensive course of physiotherapy. His doctors yesterday expressed satisfaction with his progress, Dr Golding said, adding that full recovery will take several months.
