Gordon Town kicks off Independence Day celebrations

GORDON TOWN, Jamaica — Despite early morning drizzle and overcast skies, scores of residents have gathered in Gordon Town square to participate in a series of activities to celebrate Independence Day celebration.

Residents said a flag raising event is one of the functions that' will be held in the community.

"The ceremony is to be organised by the Gordon Town Community Council," said Atilda Duncan, resident in the community.

The main address will be made by the Custos of St Andrew, Mrs Marigold Harding.

"So far plans for our celebrations are going smoothly we are just keeping our fingers cross and hoping the weather conditions hold up," said another organiser.
