KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) - Following Sunday’s plane crash at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here is to assist with arrangements to retrieve the body of the Jamaican teacher who was killed.

Annya Duncan, who taught at the Montserrat Secondary School, died along with the pilot, Captain Jason Forbes and another female passenger.

Duncan, who had visited Antigua for medical reasons, was returning to Montserrat on a plane operated by the national airline, Fly Montserrat. 

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said it contacted the Jamaican High Commission in Trinidad seeking official confirmation of the details surrounding Duncan’s death.

It has also asked the High Commission to assist in retrieving Duncan's remains from Antigua and the names and contact details of all the entities with which her family will have to engage. 

Government officials in Montserrat are also preparing to offer assistance to the grief-stricken families who lost their loved ones.

The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority has begun investigations into the crash, which was the first major aviation incident in Antigua in nearly 30 years.
