Guyana cops search for two officers in jungle

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Police in Guyana have rushed a team of investigators into a southwestern jungle region to search for two missing officers after their all-terrain vehicle was found spattered with blood.

Police Chief Leroy Brummel says gold miners reported finding the blood-spattered vehicle abandoned on a trail in the mountainous North Pakaraima district. The mining area is close to the South American country's border with Brazil.

Brummel said Wednesday that the miners reported that the police ATV's lights were still on and there was no sign of the officers.

Authorities say the two police officers haven't been seen since they headed off to an interior post Sunday.
