PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- North Korea said that it had executed Kim Jong Un's uncle as a traitor for trying to seize supreme power, a stunning end for the leader's former mentor, long considered the country's No 2 official.

LEADING distributor HD Hopwood yesterday made the positions of 70 workers redundant, leaving the chopped employees in shock.
The workers told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that they learnt of the 'pending' decision Wednesday when they were summoned to a meeting at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
"I just believe that the matter could have been dealt with in another way. There was no warning; we were just informed that we were to come to a meeting, and then told that our services were no longer required," said Rajay Brown, who journeyed from Westmoreland, on the western end of the island, to hear the news.
"Right now, the news has left me in shock. I am not sure where I will go next," said Alrick Brown (no relation to Rajay), a father of two who also travelled from Westmoreland. "Right now, it has left me in a state; I guess I will just have to sit and think of a way to move forward."
The situation was particularly painful for expectant mother Jonie Williams, who already has a child.
"I am still trying to come to terms with the decision, especially at this time, but I will continue to stay strong," said Williams.
Imaro Brown, another merchandiser, was a bit more optimistic.
"What this means is that I will definitely have to try to pursue other options and other sources of employment," said Brown.
Yesterday, attempts to get a comment from the management of the distribution company were unsuccessful.
