Home-made gun seized

Sunday, September 02, 2012 | 8:26 AM

POLICE officers attached to the Motorised Police Division seized an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition on Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 10 last night.

Reports are that about 9:15 pm, a team was conducting a stop and search operation in the area, during which they signalled the driver of a Toyota motor car to stop. The driver reportedly disobeyed and sped away.

His run came to an end when he crashed into a Nissan Sunny motor car along Maxfield Avenue, injuring the driver of that motor vehicle in the process. He and his passenger however escaped.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the home-made firearm along with five 5.56 rounds were found.

The police are now appealing to members of the surrounding community or anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Half-Way-Tree CIB at 926-2551, the Motorised Patrol Headquarters at 928-5151, Crime Stop at 311, police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
