I really appreciate the Opposition — energy minister
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — He has received considerable tongue-lashing from the political Opposition for his controversial role in efforts to develop a major energy plant aimed at driving down electricity costs.
However, Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell has praised the Opposition for its critical support of initiatives to find cheaper energy.
"I really appreciate the Opposition," Paulwell told members of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce at their regular meeting Wednesday.
"Sometimes we believe that Government and Opposition roles are totally different. In this regard, I want to commend the Opposition for being responsible; for taking the time to understand what the issues are and having got the same vision of the project as I have, they are fully on board...," he said.
This week, Opposition Leader Andrew Holness urged Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to "rein in" Paulwell. Holness said Paulwell's approach was putting the national goal of cheaper energy at risk.
