KINGSTON, Jamaica — Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson has said that he would like to be infected with the chikungunya virus currently ravishing the population.
The minister explained to reporters that he is doing everything not to catch the virus but at the same time said as a leader he would like to experience what the people are experiencing.
Ferguson made the comment while speaking to reporters after a meeting of Government and Opposition MPs, along with health officials and others at Jamaica House Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting was to address the Government’s response to the ChikV and plans to combat the threatening Ebola virus.
The minister said “when you hear about the different symptoms that people tell you about” as a leader he would like to experience what they are going through.
