A dispute over a cellular phone has left a student of the Institute of Academic Excellence dead, another injured and two others behind bars facing a murder charge.

The dead student has been identified a 15-year-old Euric Brown of Hopetown Avenue in Kingston 6.

Police report that Euric was accosted by two knife-wielding boys who stabbed him repeatedly. Brown was later pronounced dead at hospital.

His friend, who tried to save him, was also stabbed by the teenage attackers and has been hospitalised. His condition was listed as stable yesterday.

The two alleged attackers were subdued by security guards and school staff and handed over to the police.

Euric’s mother, Sheryl Dixon, was beside herself with grief and fell to the ground bawling loudly at the scene. She had to be restrained by her daughter Sherica Mothersill and other relatives.

“Mi son gone. Him dead. Him eye shut, Never to open back again! Lord, have mercy! Dem kill him,” Dixon wailed.

The woman was earlier involved in a verbal confrontation with security guards who were on the school premises and refused her access to the school grounds as police officers were processing the scene.

Their action infuriated her.

“How ooono allow dem to come on the school compound with knife? How? Two student run down my son and kill him, and all you can tell me is leave the compound? We need to speak to someone from the school,” the woman shouted.

However, the stone-faced guards stood their ground.

Mothersill said her brother was killed because his attackers suspected that he had been in possession of a cellular phone which belonged to one of them.

“Dem come to him with two knives and ask him for dem phone, and him tell dem him didn’t know about no phone. Dem threaten to stab him up and him take up a chair to defend himself, but dem stab him in him heart. Him run and told a teacher say him get stab, but dem still stab him in front of the teacher,” Mothersill told the Jamaica Observer.
