MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Investigators from the Mandeville branch of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) have started their enquiry into Saturday's shooting death of a 31-year-old man by the Manchester police.

The dead was identified as Dwayne Anthony Reid, a resident of Manchester. He was wanted by both the St Elizabeth and Manchester police.

Reid, the police alleged, jumped in a Toyota Corolla motor car and started shooting when officers on patrol reached Caledonia Courts on Caledonia Road here in Mandeville. The police returned fire and Reid sped off and crashed along the roadway. He was reportedly found suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Superintendent Lascelles Taylor of the Manchester police said a Smith and Wesson revolver was found in the car containing four live rounds and one spent shell.

He said that Reid was wanted for the murder of Wayne Salmon, who was shot and killed in September of last year in Brompton District, St Elizabeth. He was also wanted for the shooting death of his girlfriend Trudy-Ann Green of Speculation District in St Elizabeth in February of this year.

Superintendent Taylor said that Reid had featured in a number of gun-related crimes in Manchester.
