FORMER Director of Industrial Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security Stephen Benjamin Carter, has passed on.
He died on Monday, August 30, 2010 after a brief illness.
Carter started his career in the public service in April 1945 and worked his way up to the position of Director of Industrial Relations in which capacity he served until his retirement in June 1980. But, even after retirement, he continued to serve in the field of industrial relations.
According to Minister of Labour Pearnel Charles, Carter's contribution to industrial relations cannot be measured.
"He was an outstanding public servant who played a significant role in the development of industrial relations practices in Jamaica. As a Senior Director in the Ministry, Mr Carter facilitated an effective and responsive tripartite relationship with trade unions, employers and Government. He performed the duties of his office at the highest level of integrity and was well respected by his peers and the members of the tripartite team. The ministry acknowledges Mr Carter's contribution to nation building and will build on his legacy of dedication and service," Charles said in a release to the media.
Funeral arrangements for Stephen Benjamin Carter will be announced soon.
