J’can woman before court for allegedly attacking husband in US

Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 6:32 AM

A Jamaican woman is before a United States court for allegedly burning her husband with hot oil and chasing him with an axe.

The New Jersey Star Ledger reported yesterday that the woman, 42, claimed she was acting in self-defence when she attacked her husband on April 6 last year.

The husband, a taxi driver, also from Jamaica, wore a brace over his scarred body when he appeared in court yesterday, the paper reported.

The woman is due back in court on February 22.

The Star Ledger reports that the husband was sleeping in the couple’s apartment, “when his wife sprayed him with an unknown chemical, causing a burning sensation in his face and eyes.

“As he tried to rinse off the chemical in the shower, [the wife] returned and doused him with a pot of hot cooking oil, authorities said.”

He then reportedly ran from the shower as his wife chased him with an axe.

The paper reported that the attack occurred after the husband began proceedings for a divorce.
