KINGSTON, Jamaica — Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has welcomed the merger of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) saying that the move is long overdue.

“It will create efficiencies in the use of resources and will eliminate duplicated administrative and support functions … thereby increasing the deployment of police officers where they are required most, on the street and in the various communities,” Ellington told OBSERVER ONLINE Tuesday afternoon.

He added that the move is consistent with the major recommendations of a review in 1991.
