JDF calls out Reserves
Thursday, May 20, 2010
THE Jamaica Defence Force yesterday called out the National Reserves, as the security forces stepped up their presence on the streets as the court prepares to start extradition proceedings against Tivoli strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
The army, in a release yesterday afternoon, said members of the Reserves were required to report by 6:00 pm today to their respective duty stations, prepared for duty.
An army spokesman later told the Observer that the matter concerning the extradition of Coke was still within the purview of the police, adding that the JDF was providing its normal support to the constabulary.
"However, we are prepared to provide additional support if required, hence the call out of the Reserves," the spokesman said.

What a thing we have on our hands. We have delivered, nurtured and grown a monster we now cannot seem to tame. We are back to square one- he needs to be DELIVERED AGAIN, this time to the courts. May God help us and more specifically the people of Tivoli.

There is no turning back on this one. The illegal high power guns must be taken out of the hands of these gunmen. There will be casualities, that is unavoidable. The human shield are the most likely ones.

"In most countries you would wake up to the news that the person was arrested, extradited and sitting in a NY prison cell, with a strong security forces presence already deployed and a state of emergency in place."
Andy Stewart, I completely agree that the govt handled this badly.
1) No public announcement should have been made of the signing of the extradition order until it was done and Mr. Coke was arrested.
2) A comprehensive security plan should have been in place and activated as soon as the decision to sign the order was made.
3) The people of Tivoli should not have been allowed to construct barricades on PUBLIC roads. Where were the police? Weren't they out patrolling on Monday when the barricades were put up? And haven't they said they are equipped to handle the situation? I don't trust that statement at all when they couldn't even prevent people from blocking roads in a place where they knew there would be trouble.

If Mr. Golding had not interfered and the extradition order was signed in August of last year and Mr. Coke was quietly picked up without any notification all of this would have been avoided. This is how Jamaica dealt with extraditions during the time of Mr. Patterson and Mrs. Simpson Miller. Golding announced that the extradition would be signed and the police announced that they had it in hand. That was not smart and only gave the criminals time to prepare and set up barricades. Tivoli is Golding's constituency so he should have some influence on them. I am glad the army has been called out and they must be allowed to do their job. Those who in the past have fought the police/army over actions in Tivoli are responsible for the state of affairs. We cannot have a state within a state. This is the only place where its political leaders have fought for them to remain outside the ambit of the law. Good luck army and Police. God be with you and the innocent people being held hostage.

All the reserves is going to do is cause more friction in the community, what a ting wi a go a war wid wi self,
5/20/2010
I agree g-force. The jamaica government have a duty to dismantle all the garrison, because they are the ones that set it up.

JDF get some advice from Israel.
5/20/2010
Nicolas, I agree. from an army standpoint, I would further state that innocent people die in Jamaica every day at the hands of thugs. Unfortunately, they must also die to fix this problem. That's just the nature of war. sometimes, as in this case, it is a necessary evil.
5/20/2010
What security planning was put in place before the decision to extradite was made.
In your haste to save your own neck you have caused a bigger problem, we all understand that extraditing this sub-human may cause a problem and as such requires detail planning by the security forces to contain any problem that may arise.
In most countries you would wake up to the news that the person was arrested, extradited and sitting in a NY prison cell, with a strong security forces presence already deployed and a state of emergency in place.

For those Slaves who would wish to see Jamaica occupied by their Masters or destroyed...take a one way ticket to Hell..to many of you, Garrisons communities was not created in Jamaica! for the ignorant living in the USA, how about Bensinhourst, Howard Beach...in NY ...little Italy..and others..why not venture in those communities, I dare you?
Nobody is pleased with the situation in Jamaica, but Jamaica has much to offer than whats' been highlighted. we have been down this road before, and we rebounded.
I believe and will continue to believe in The Democratic system in Jamaica, not perfect, need a lot of improvement, but better than many of the European and Asian Countries..count how many Prime ministers Italy, France, Japan, Korea changed in a month?
Again, we can agree to disagree! some of us seems to bring the worst out of us when it comes to one of us" We may disagree with the policys and politics in Jamaica, but we dont have to disrespect the Leadership, do it in America??

Pre-emptive Strike.

Some people living copmfortable elsewhere, is all concern about the innocent lives that would be affected, Dudus isn;t going nowhere, therefore the idea of storming Tevoli is rediculous. After Dudus there will be someone else, what next? The real issue is not so much the Dons in Jamaica, but rather a system that creates them, and facilitates them, therefore the issue is redundant.
Lets solve the problem once and for all.
It's easy to focus on the poor communities and their deviant behavior, however who is holding the middle and upperclass accountable?
There's nothing jamaican can do without the hyprocrits having something to say, In a another country many of the critics are silent on issues that affects them in many ways, yet they would be quick to criticized any effort that's put in place in Jamaica..Slave Mentality...Why not shut your face if you'll have nothing positive or constructive to contribute!
The issues facing Jamaica is not unique to Jamaica alone.
5/20/2010
Calling out the reserves is one thing, using them its another. As much as I want to see this situation resolved, I don't want to see the carnage that will come with trying to get Dudus from the enclave of Tivoli. Most people here know nothing about living in a Garrison, I do. These people being used as shields are not doing so willingly. But true to the dictates of living in The Mother of all "GARRISON" women and children will be used to try and stop the police from making an arrest. So be mindful that a lot of innocent lives will be lost, If the community is invaded. Sounds harsh but its the reality of living in any Garrison in the corporate area.

Move the JDF from Up Park Camp to Tivoli Gardens, it is that simple. Not one single business place should have to close, and not ONE person should be afraid to go to Coronation Market to buy food for their family, the inabilty to continue to do business as usuall will further hurt Jamaica economically. The minute the first blocaked was set it it should be removed immediately, sending a message to the thugs that the GOJ of Jamaica is still in charge, but from all indications, the Commissioner of Police, the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Security seems impotent on this one. This is one of the times when I totally agree with Nicolas, something that rarely happens. What about children who want to go to school, what about persons who need medical attention, but are too scared to go to KPH, is this how we run a country. Owen Ellington you have been too silent, are you there?

If my pea sized brain recall, a circle is 360 degrees. A circle has 4 points: EAST. WEST. NORTH. SOUTH. There's no way on earth one can tell me that 200 or even 500 men with illegal guns can't be completely circled and flushed out by our police along with the army.!! Mr. Prime Minister, you have the executive POWER!! Take a page out of Sri Lanka's book; re: TAMIL TIGERS, and clean these dens that has gone far too long without being cleaned. COKE and his goons killed a man just because his car door touched his car. COKE and his goons told a woman in Tivoli that her house she worked so hard to achieved had to be 'SHARED' !! I guess they are now enjoying the fruits of her hard labour. Being poor doesn't have to mean you are low lives and classless. 'LICKI LICKI', now that's a whole different animal!!!!!!!!!!!!
5/20/2010
the army should be on the streets long ago.. sad to say they are goin to need external help with this one!!
5/20/2010
Reserves ?, from what were they being reserved....surely it could not have been the hectic battle to provide security for the Citizens of Jamaica. The " Army " is a waste of time and scarce resources and should be incorporated into a para-military force to become more effective. There is the most obvious of solutions to this problem....which is to starve them out of Tivoli, offer them safe passage out by a specific time...then apply the pressure. These fools are cowards and think nothing of hiding behind women and children.....allow the women and children to leave.....if they dont take the offer...then eliminate them all, a lot of these women are the supporters and breeders for these maggots. Do to them what they are doing to Jamaicans each day...eliminate them...the others throughout Jamaica will start sh---ing in their pants when they see that we are finally targeting them.

Bruce the PM can ask Bruce the MP where dudus is, or Christopher Coke the government contractor can ask dudus where he is. I am not sure if the tivolians know where either their MP or dudus are. I think those 2 are MIA(missing in action). But the PM and the millionaire contractor are sipping hennessey and relaxing.
5/20/2010
Wait 'till gunshot start lick dem behind...the so-called rude bway dem a go run like puss. If indeed it gets to dat. Dudus' ship has already sank...I doubt they'd want to go down any further.

Re : "we are prepared to provide additional support if required".
So, what has to happen to meet the requirement test ?.
Is there already someone in charge of the country ?.
So in the face of this lawlessness and anarchy, is this not also your country ?
What if the criminals have already infiltrated the JDF and is about to take charge, who will you be "providing the additional support to ?.
This sitting and watching while fools fight themselves and the law abiding, is idiotic.

From a miltary stand-point, extracting a wanted person from a urban area as volatile as TIVOLI will result in many unavoidable deaths. Since the extradition warrant was signed, gunmen already setup defensive positions by barricding themselves in, holding residents hostage & seizing Cell phones, such baring outside communication. This clearly show that they're in for a all out conflict. They had enough time to stockpile food, water, petrol & long term survial equipments. There's 2 ways to do this. Cut all essential supplies & allow no entry, only exit, while you wait for a surender. From my marine training, the offensive position is what I prefer. The difference is we don't attack without intelligence & we don't chery pick. There are some that's gonna say that innocent people will die. Yes you got that right. How innocent are the people that always accept money, food & clothing that they know was gained from illegal activities. READERS ASK YOURSELF THAT. ORDER MUST BE KEPT AT ANY COST.
5/20/2010
There is no need to strom Tivoli, use intelleigence and you will get your man easily.
Consider a game of chess.
Make your move then wait for your opponent to make his move, don't watch the clock simply wait.
Hurry people cant fight war.
Physiological warfare is a useful tool, leaflet, loud speakers sending a message to folks in the area.
Constant video surveillance of the area.
Its easy very easy.
