THE Opposition Jamaica Labour Party yesterday held a meeting of its Central Executive -- the highest decision-making body outside of its annual conference — where it ratified the selection of more candidates for local and parliamentary elections.

"The party's selection of seven candidates for the general election and 19 local government candidates have strengthened and motivated the party's membership and brought us that much closer to election readiness," said General Secretary Dr Horace Chang.

Chang, according to a party release, used the meeting to recognise the hard work done by the secretariat and teams out in the field over the last quarter.

The meeting, the release said, also settled a number of administrative issues such as the appointment of businessman Philip Henriques as treasurer and the reappointment of attorney Leslie Campbell as deputy treasurer.
